Deacons

The number for this congregation is presently twelve; to facilitate the Tribal System, but the body has the discretion to increase the number to meet the needs of the congregation.

Before a man is placed before the church to be received as a Deacon, he must submit himself to an ample period of training by the Pastor or someone so appointed by the Pastor.  During this training the candidate’s record of stewardship (tithes & offerings) will be examined to determine his loyalty to the church and more especially of the Word of God.

Duties

1.    Aid and assist the Pastor by having charge of the temporal needs of the Church as they are appointed over this business.

2.    Advise, counsel and inform Pastor in all matters pertaining to the general welfare of the Church.

3.    The Deacons shall have charge of the collections.

4.    Each Deacon shall have charge of an assigned number of members called a Tribe. Each Deacon shall maintain a close contact with the members of his assigned Tribe and report the needs, general welfare and any attrition within his Tribe to the monthly business meeting of the Deacons Ministry.


Deaconess

The Board of Deaconesses shall assist the Pastor in developing the spiritual life of the women and girls of the Church for the best possible Christian service. It shall cooperate with the Pastor and the Board of Deacons in visiting the members; in the care of the sick, needy, and distressed members of the Church; and in the preparation of the observances of the ordinances of the Church (The Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion and Baptism)

There is no spiritual ordination or qualification for a Deaconess, but they are expected to follow the criteria revealed in the scriptures for a Deacon. (1 Timothy 3: 8 – 9)

A Deaconess shall hold office as long as they shall faithfully discharge their duties.

Duties

1.    The Board of Deaconesses shall assist the Pastor in developing the spiritual life of the women and girls of the Church for the best possible Christian service. Deaconess shall cooperate with the Pastor and the Deacon’s Ministry in visiting the members; in the care of the sick, needy, and distressed members of the Church; and in the preparation of the observances.

2.    Deaconess shall be appointed a Tribe whereby they will work with the Deacon assigned to the Tribe.  Their specific duty will be to take charge of the needs of the sisterhood of the church.  They shall faithfully take an active part in the devotional service and aid the Deacons in any need that may arise.
